This deprecates User.message_set in favour of a configurable messaging system, with backends provided for cookie storage, session storage and backward compatibility. Many thanks to Tobias McNulty for the bulk of the work here, with contributions from Chris Beaven (SmileyChris) and lots of code review from Russell Keith-Magee, and input from many others. This involved changing the way the internal function decorator_from_middleware works slightly, breaking some code that relied on the old behaviour. This provides support for views that can have their ETag and/or Last-modified values computed much more quickly than the view itself. Supports all HTTP verbs (not just GET). Also documented the change. We prefer to load directory_index.html for static directory listings, but if you have the (older style) "directory_index" template and no .html version, we'll load that. This should stop a bunch of mysterious breakages when people upgrade to Django 1.0.3 or Django 1.1. Also keeps the docs in sync with released code. True by default, to match existing behavior. If set to False, the redirect will be a 302 instead of a 301. new module, django/contrib/contenttypes/views.py. As a result, django/views/defaults.py no longer relies on django.contrib.contenttypes. Of course, the shortcut() function is still available in the former module, for backwards compatibility.
